Why Capitola
What we love about Capitola for family sessions.
Capitola Village is one of our most-requested family spots, and it's easy to see why: the pastel Venetian houses along the wharf, the beach (often bisected by Soquel Creek), and a walkable downtown all in one place. It photographs warm and colorful in a way most beaches don't, which is a gift on an overcast day. Plus, if the sun is harsh, shooting around and under the wharf offers the perfect lighting and a respite from the heat. Parking fills fast on summer weekends, so we usually aim for a weekday evening or an early start. Great for younger kids who need a snack break between setups.
Best time of year
Late spring through fall. The hour before sunset on the wharf is the move.
